The meeting took place at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg. Present were: John Symonds, Geoff Davis, Lay Director; Dave vanEsselstyn, Asst. Lay Director; Gail Daniel, Fr. Bill Burk, Spiritual Director, and Connie Smith, Secretary. The meeting began at 9:30 a.m. with song, and opening prayer by John Symonds.

Diocesan Council. John reported a lot of interest in Cursillo at Diocesan Council. The message was: the Secretariat is the link with the Bishop and the working arm of the Servant Community. Cursillo makes its contribution to the work of the Church in the Diocese. Always, however, God is the center, the Master Architect and Builder; as Psalm 127 states, “unless the Lord builds this House, the laborers labor in vain.” The tools are the Bible, the Library, the Leader’s Manual, and the Servant Community itself.

Self-Study. Fr. Bill would like to see a self-directed self-study to look at what we do well and what we do not do well, at whether we might need a new structure or a new form. Dave is eager that we look ahead and not back with mourning and urges that the Community find its strengths with introspection and study. With thanks to Jo Freeman, for example, the Cursillo Webpage looks better and better.

Treasurer. Dave Wright will mail signature cards to Geoff. The situation of the recent past is still being sorted out. Bishop Jones needs to be apprised though assured that he need take no action; no fiduciary malfeasance is involved.

ECLW. Scheduled in July, if there are 50 registrants, it will cost $150.00 per person, not including the Library. Members of the national team will be paid $1,000 each. Yvonne Mulligan went over the cost figures with Dave vanEsselstyn. Yvonne is looking for someone to take over her leadership position on the regional weekend; she is moving to Richmond. We need to get monies out to Shalom, Front Royal, and St. Margaret’s.

Upcoming Weekends. For the Men’s Weekend, the Core Team is: Ed Schneider - Rector, Joe Kokalas – Assistant Rector, Dan Escalera – Head Cha, and Mike Dickerson – Music. The Spiritual Directors are John Weatherly and David Perkins. Sue Davis, Rector for the Women’s Weekend, is assembling her Core Team as well.

By-Laws. Dave vanEsselstyn would like to see a committee, headed by Ted Simpson, revise the by-laws, and he wants to make sure that regional reps have seat, voice and vote. Then we might consider also revising the Pastoral Plan. Spiritual Director’s Report. Bill Burk has started calling SDs for 2004. He has also sent a commissioning service (for Cursillistas returning to the parish) to Ed. Kryder for his feedback. He would like to see guidelines for a pre-weekend orientation for clergy, team and candidates. The next meeting of this body will include a Lenten Festal Eucharist. A post card will go out to advertise the next meeting, March 15. Gail Daniel and Connie Smith volunteered to help with mailing. The wording is:

Calling All Cursillistas: You, the Servant Community!
Called in Christ Saturday, March 15th at St. George’s Church
9 a.m. “Coffee Hour”
9:30 a.m. Lenten Festal Eucharist
A time of Dreaming, Sharing, Moving toward Christ in 2003 and Beyond

Assistant Lay Director. Dave would like to see only two weekends next year, one co-ed weekend and one “training” weekend. We need to answer the questions what do/can we provide to the Diocese and to the people who are outside the Diocese as well?

The meeting adjourned at 12:15 with closing prayer offered by Fr. Bill Burk. Everyone ventured out into the Snow.

Respectfully submitted,

Constance Fletcher Smith
Secretary
